Rob Gordon, Professor and Dean of Research
The Dean of Research (Director of Research) reports to the Vice-President Academic.
The Dean is responsible for working with faculty and staff to meet the research
goals of the university and its academic departments. The Dean, promotes and
actively develops the research effort on campus to help foster research growth
and excellence. More specifically, the Dean has the primary institutional responsibility
to:
- Coordinate, facilitate and monitor university-wide efforts to meet its
goals in obtaining research funding and communicating results (enhance and support
research, research funding and knowledge transfer);
- Work with external stakeholders in the development of research programs
and opportunities that support the growth of NSAC and its research capacity;
- Oversee pre-award research activities including facilitating the development,
and review of research proposals to funding agencies (e.g., NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR,
CFI, AIF, etc);
- Oversee industrial interaction activities through supervision of the
Industrial Liaison Officer, including assisting and facilitating the partnering
of researcher(s) with industry; overseeing negotiations of contractual research
agreements at NSAC; and working to ensure appropriate technology transfer and
commercialization follow-up to research activities;
- Support research communication internally and externally;
- Ensure that NSAC has appropriate up-to-date university-wide policies
with respect to research and the mechanisms to monitor their application; and
- Identify and foster strategic research areas for NSAC.
