Peer Education Program/RESPECT
The Peer Education Program (RESPECT) at NSAC was established
in 1993 to provide education by students, for students on
lifestyle issues.
RESPECT, the acronym, stands for Real Energy
Supporting Peer Education
on Current Topics.
Hours/Location
The RESPECT team works six hours per week.
The Peer Ed/RESPECT hours will be posted on the door of
the Peer Ed office, located in the Dairy Building, main
floor next to Safety & Security. Volunteers always welcome.
Purpose
Peer Education/RESPECT is a program offered
to the campus community by the University Health Centre.
It is a vehicle for using peers to influencestudents to
adopt health enhancing behaviours and attitudes, and motivating
and equipping students to make healthy choices. Our program
employs four students for five hours per week for the academic
year. The RESPECT team is supervised by the Nurse/Educator.
The RESPECT team provides free presentations
on our mandated topics to classes, residence floors and
student groups.
RESPECT also hosts special events on campus
to raise awareness and educate students about mandated topics.
Alcohol Awareness Week, AIDS Awareness Week, World AIDS
Day and Violence Prevention Week are just a few of the occasions
when you will see us conducting activities. We strive to
reach students in a variety of ways, through newsletters,
posters, brochures, displays, contests, games and drama.
If you would
