Jack McDonald

Jack McDonald is first and foremost a farmer. Beginning his career at
the age of 16 and in partnership with his son, Tom, he is involved in
the production of Holstein cattle and vegetable crops. Jack McDonald is
a leader in agricultural organizations, a Director of the Eastern Dairy
Foods Limited. He is actively involved in cooperatives, both consumer
and marketing organizations. Mr. McDonald is credited with the establishment
of the St. John's Trotting Park.
He has held the Vice-president's office since 1961. He has served as
an Associate Judge and Presiding Judge for the past 19 years.
On the Queen's 25th Anniversary in 1977 he was presented with the Queen's
Medal for voluntary agricultural community service. He is the only farmer
in Newfoundland to be so honoured.
His pioneering efforts, and as a community leader he has set an example
through his cooperative efforts to enhance and improve the quality of
life and the financial base of the farmers of Newfoundland and the rural
community in which he lives.
