Earl Edward Lister

(1907 - 1971)

Earl Lister, Harvey Station, New Brunswick selected Longview as a prefix for the outstanding Jersey herd he began to develop as a boy. Longview fitted his lifetime optimistic outlook on agriculture. His positive counseling and encouragement inspired many young people and his faith, through success and adversity, that agriculture would one day become a profitable and esteemed profession, was unyielding.

His interests embraced all phases of agriculture, but Jersey cattle breeding was his specialty. Active in Junior Club work as a lad, he represented New Brunswick in National programs at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 1923. A pioneer and one of the founders of the Harvey Jersey Breeders Club, he was active in the organization of the New Brunswick Jersey Breeders Association of which he was a long time Director and President.

He was elected to the Board of the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club and was President of that organization in 1941. He represented New Brunswick on the Dairy Farmers of Canada Board of Directors for a period of eight years. His leadership abilities were also evident in the New Brunswick Farmers and Dairymen s Association and later in the New Brunswick Federation of Agriculture.

He officiated as judge at most major shows in Eastern Canada and the USA

His wide interests did not detract from his local community activities. He was Manager of the Harvey Creamery. His church, school, lodge and hospital were high on his list of priorities. Earl Lister is elected to the Agricultural Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to the dairy industry, the livestock world, to New Brunswick and to his community.
