R. D. Gilbert

R. D. Gilbert has dedicated his life to the orderly marketing of agricultural
products, agricultural education and programs that would recognize the
contributions that agriculture is making to the social and economic life
of Canada.
R. D, Gilbert was born in Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick and
graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1933, McGill University
in 1935 and joined the staff of the Federal Research Station. His agricultural
career includes the position of Agricultural Representative, Director
of Agricultural Education and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural
Development from 1957 to 1973.
At the present time he is the Chairman of the Natural Products Control
Board which is responsible for the operation of the marketing boards in
New Brunswick. In this capacity he is also closely associated with all
marketing programs in the province as well as marketing programs across
Canada.
He is the immediate Past President of the Canadian Agricultural Hall
of Fame which is responsible for recognizing outstanding agricultural
achievement in Canada - presentations made at the Royal Winter Fair. Mr.
Gilbert still continues to take a very active interest in the agricultural
industry as a retired professional agriculturist who still devotes time
and energy to agricultural development.
