Fred Fuller
Nova Scotia
Fred Fuller, a native of Grand Pre, who graduated from the School of
Agriculture, Truro, 1890, was a man who, over a span of 42 years in professional
agriculture and government service, played a major role in the development
of the agricultural industry in the Maritime Provinces, and particularly
that of his native Nova Scotia.
He was a man of sound and mature judgement and wherever he served, and
in whatever office - as assistant to the Superintendent of the Experimental
Farm, Nappan, as Superintendent of the Provincial Government Farm at Truro,
as Superintendent of Agricultural Societies and Exhibitions, and as the
long-time and popular manager of the Maritime Winter Fair which, incidentally,
he helped to organize and which under his direction became one of the
leading livestock exhibitions in Eastern Canada - his capacity as a competent
administrator, Mr. Fuller demonstrated continually, often in the face
of discouragements which would have snapped the enthusiasm and vitality
of one of lesser breed.
Truly, he was one who was a generation ahead of his time and of him it
may well be said that because he lived and served here, and because of
the love he had for his fellow man and which he demonstrated throughout
his whole life by precept and example, this is a better place because
of the standard he set and the services he provided.
