Irvine Embleton
New Brunswick
Irvine Embleton, a native of Harvey Station, New Brunswick, was truly
a man of many accomplishments, and of rare perspective, and in no group
was his competence more readily recognized, his opinions more widely supported,
and his homely philosophy more sincerely accepted than in the Jersey fraternity
on this Continent by whom he was so well and so favourably known and so
genuinely respected.
This lover of the Jersey breed possessed a kindly philosophy and a quality
that is given to but few men and, wherever he moved, Irvine Embleton left
the imprint of his personality indelibly recorded upon the minds and the
hearts of those with whom he came in contact - all of whom, be they prince
or pauper, were honoured to call him friend.
His skill as a breeder of good livestock is exemplified in the achievements
of Hillside Marjorie, one of the many fine Jersey cows he developed, and
whose lifetime record of 133,976 pounds of milk and 7,217 pounds fat has
been suitably recognized by the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club.
Although Irvine Embleton was recognized in this Country and in the United
States as a competent and intelligent livestock judge, his real international
recognition and reputation were established through his "Pipe Dreams"
column in the Canadian Jersey Breeder, where his philosophy, his wit,
his sense of humor, his sportsmanship, his honesty, his sense of values
and his love for his fellow man were chronicled and his talents demonstrated
and recognized.
He was a "man for all seasons".
