Keith Boswall
Prince Edward Island
The Province of Prince Edward Island has long been noted for the excellence
of its livestock and for its competent and knowledgeable live- stock breeders
whose contributions, down through the years, have meant so much to the
purebred livestock industry, and to the agricultural economy of Canada's
Atlantic Provinces.
Such a stockman was the late Mr. Keith Boswall of Victoria, P.E.I., a
native son whose Lealands Ayrshire herd was regarded as one of the best
herds of Ayrshire cattle in Eastern Canada, and which herd contributed
so many outstanding home-bred animals which other breeders, from coast
to coast, acquired and used to improve the bloodlines, the production
records, and the show-ring qualifications of their herds.
One of these animals was Lealands Royal Margaret, an excellent cow with
B.C.A.'s of 155 and 145, which had the distinction not only of winning
a Grand Championship at the Atlantic Winter Fair but, also, the Grand
Championship at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair - no mean accomplishment
this, in what is regarded as the Premier Ayrshire Show on the North American
Continent.
Mr. Boswall was a staunch champion of agricultural exhibitions, not only
those on his native P .E .1., where his herd entries amassed a large collection
of show ribbons but, also, of the Maritime Winter Fair, and at the Royal
Winter Fair, where Lealands Ayrshires provided the keenest of competition
and collected so many show honours and awards.
