Charles Frederick Bailey
New Brunswick
Charles Frederick Bailey, a native of Kentville, has the distinction
of being one of the most imaginative and visionary professional agriculturists
ever to serve with the Canada Department of Agricultures Experimental
Farm Service.
This reputation Mr. Bailey acquired during the quarter century (1922-47)
he served as Superintendent of the Dominion Experimental Farm, Fredericton,
New Brunswick, and where the experimental and research work which he supervised
and directed, particularly in the fields of activity associated with the
breeding of heavy horses, dairy cattle, swine, in crop production,- and
in animal nutrition, led to that Farm acquiring a distinction and a lustre
which the Station retains until this day.
Mr. Bailey was a staunch supporter and advocate of agricultural fairs
and exhibitions. It is a matter of record that it was during the term
of his presidency that the Maritime Winter Fair, recognized as the leading
livestock show in the Maritime Provinces, attained, in the exhibition
world, a standard of excellence which, although sought by many, is acquired
by few.
In the election of Mr. Bailey to the Agricultural Hall of Fame, the Atlantic
Winter Fair recognizes how much the agricultural industry of Canada owes
to such men whose deeds and accomplishments continue to live after them.
