Overview
This project is on hold while NSAC and Dalhosuie explore the possibility of merging the two institutions. You can find out more about merger discussions at nsacdalmerger.ca.
NSAC is the only post-secondary institution in Canada that has been operating as a branch of a government department.
The Nova Scotia Agricultural College Act was passed in May 2008 to update the NSAC’s role and mandate, and enable it to become a Crown Corporation, governed by a Board of Directors.
Before the legislation can be proclaimed, certain conditions must be met. The NSAC Governance Transition Project is helping the college make the changes required to operate as a stand-alone organization.
New administrative processes and systems must be developed to suit a small Crown Corporation. Given the need to maintain cost-effective administration, the college recognizes the importance of appropriate partnerships and service delivery agreements with government and other educational institutions.
The legislation affirms the college’s traditional agricultural mandate – and gives impetus to its economic, extension and rural development roles.
The transition project will provide a foundation for the college to undertake a comprehensive long-term planning process to position itself for success in the competitive market for students, academic and research funding and good quality faculty.
