Ecophysiology is a science of understanding function and responses of plants in a group, as a community, or in an ecosystem, comprising of both natural and agroecosystems, and their interaction with soil, environment and production management systems.

ERG’s research themes focuses on understanding the growth, developmental, physiological and metabolic responses of plants as individual organisms and in their communities, their interaction with the environment they grow, mechanisms of tolerance to various environmental stresses, acclimation and adaptation mechanisms, inter and intra plant communication and signals, and develop plant growth, maturity, yield and quality models, and agroinformatics which will help in optimizing crop growth, yield and quality and allow development of intelligent decision making tools.
