Future

The acquired infrastructure is in the process of making significant contributions to wild blueberry research, development and technology transfer activities. The acquired image analysis capabilities has allowed for the more research to be completed on floral morphometrics, floral initiation, pollination, fertilization, berry development, and winter and frost injury. The new analytical facilities are playing an important role in the identification and quantification of leaf and berry pigments, inorganic and organic nutrients, and pesticide residues. The Wild Blueberry Research Centre is facilitating the development of an efficient, coordinated, integrated and centralized one-stop location for the wild blueberry industry. It is envisioned and expected that this and subsequent initiatives will play a critical factor in advancing the wild blueberry industry into the twenty-first century.
