Some of My Work History
Lara Holding Ducks

During and just after university I had some fantastic opportunities to do field work with the Orcalab in Johnson Strait, Jayne Watson, the Marine Mammal Research Unit at the University of British Columbia, the North West Hawaiian Island Monk Seal Research Group and Ducks Unlimited.

In these jobs I learned how to observe and record animal behaviour, census populations, whole ecosystem management and the art of living in remote locations. Below is a picture from my tent in Hawaii, where I worked for five months.

When I moved to Halifax I got involved with the Ecology Action Centre. Specifically with their Committee On Marine Bioinvaders. I also volunteered with Solar Nova Scotia, and sat as a board member for a couple of years.

It was also around this time that I began to work as a Teaching Assistant at Dalhousie University, and discovered my interest in teaching. This lead to me filling in as an instructor for the second year genetics course and the first year on-line biology course.
