25th Annual Rick Russell Woodsmen Competition

The first woodsmen’s team was formed at NSAC in 1964-65, as a result of an invitation to participate in the Macdonald College Winter Carnival. Here we are in 2010 celebrating the 25th anniversary of NSAC’s competition, now known as the Rick Russell Woodsmen Competition. 

The competition will be held Saturday February 13, 2010.

In this the 25th year of the Rick Russell event, NSAC Athletics is inviting former woodsmen back to campus for the competition and for a dinner with a cash bar at Jenkins Hall. 

The competition begins at 8:30 a.m.  This year, Don Gunn Jr, as a member of the first NSAC woodsmen team, will be participating in the opening at the MacMillan Show Centre.  The schedule includes :

In celebration of the 25th event, a dinner for woodsmen alumni and their partners/significant others will be held following the competition at 6 p.m. in the Riverview Room of Jenkins Hall.  The dinner will be complimentary, with a cash bar.

To facilitate planning, please register by noon Feb 8.

Following the dinner, if alumni wish to, they can move to Alumni Theater for 8 p.m. to see the Awards Ceremony for the 2010 event.

Holiday Inn in Truro (437 Prince St – newly renovated –formerly Keddy’s) are offering a $99 rate for the woodsmen competition and are extending that to woodsmen alumni as well.

RSVP to Cathy Myette (cmyette@nsac.ca)  (902)893-7567.  Also note in your RSVP if you will be accompanied by a spouse/partner and if either of you have any special dietary needs.  Once we get your registration, we will leave a “woodsmen alumni card” at the entrance to MacMillan, which will serve as your ticket to the competition and dinner.
