NSAC Rocks the Hub – Enrollment up by 10 per cent
NSAC “Rocked the Hub” during this year ’s 2009 orientation activities but a specialized university experience remains the primary attraction for nearly 900 students who began classes last month. This marks the university’s highest enrollment in 12 years.
According to surveys by the Association of Atlantic Universities, student enrolment at NSAC has risen in each of the past three years, while overall enrollment to Atlantic Canada’s universities has declined.
"The student recruitment team, supported by the entire campus at NSAC, has worked hard to promote NSAC as an option for university bound students - our students are our best ambassadors,” said Brian Crouse, Acting Enrolment Manager. “The positive student experience and the high student satisfaction ratings have led to our enrolment growth. Our new student number has increased ten per cent over last year. It's also significant that about a third of our new students are transfer students,” he added.
NSAC offers students a unique 12 to 1, student-to-faculty ratio, along with interactive learning opportunities both in Nova Scotia and internationally. Students choosing to study at NSAC are making a difference at the university and in their communities.
"I have been so impressed by the quality of our student leaders and the engagement of our new students during the orientation activities,” said Keltie Jones, Associate Vice-President Academic for Students. “They are excited to be here and are ready to embrace all the opportunities NSAC will provide. I look forward to working with all of them in the coming years as they participate in NSAC's wonderful learning environment, both inside and outside of the classroom.”
In addition to students who have enrolled from nine provinces across the country, NSAC welcomed students from India, the Netherlands, Korea, the UK, the US, the Caribbean, Finland, Nigeria, Pakistan and Switzerland. As well, 42 students have registered from NSAC’S partner university in China, the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU). Students complete the first two years of the degree at FAFU and the final two years at NSAC where they are awarded their degree.
NSAC is a specialized university that cultivates learning and research, focusing on improving and sustaining our environment for the health and well-being of society.
