Dr. Harold Chute
1921-2008
Dr. Chute was raised in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia and graduated from NSAC in 1944. He went on to further his education until receiving a doctorate of veterinary science from the University of Toronto.
Throughout his career, Dr. Chute achieved distinction not only as an avian pathologist, but also as a consultant, entrepreneur, fundraiser, businessman, politician, investor, public servant and philanthropist.
Dr. Chute was at the forefront of poultry disease control. He was involved with research, diagnosis and the development of disease control programs. He served on many national and disease control committees, in his home state of Maine, focusing on poultry disease control and inspection. His work brought international recognition and he was invited to lecture in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South and Central America.
As an active member of NSAC’s Class of ’44, Dr. Chute was instrumental in several fundraising efforts over the years. For his contributions, he received a Distinguished Alumnus Award, Honourary Associate Award and an Honourary Degree from NSAC. |
