Where are they now?

After graduating from NSAC in 1998 with by B.Sc in Agriculture with a focus on Aquaculture, I was accepted into Dalhousie's unique Masters of Marine Management course. The degree from NSAC qualified me to enter my Masters course immediately after graduation.

Upon graduating from Dalhousie with my MMM, I gained employment with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth. My work focused primarily on Federal Environmental Assessment with respect to finfish and shellfish aquaculture development. I eventually gained an indeterminate position with DFO in Truro as the Area Habitat Coordinator for Eastern Nova Scotia. My main responsibilities include reviewing development proposals both in freshwater and marine for impacts to fish habitat, Federal Environmental Assessment reviews, as well as education and awareness activities related to fish habitat management. I also participate in investigations related to fish habitat destruction and testify in trials as an expert witness for the department. I have now been with the department for seven years.

There are many things about NSAC that I remember. The entrance scholarship was a big reason I decided to come to NSAC. I enjoyed the relationships I had with my professors. To this day I can walk across campus and any of my former professors that I meet still know my name and are genuinely curious about what I've been up to. I still remember all the nights in the library with my fellow classmates and still keep in touch with quite a few even though we all lead hectic lives.

I was married in 2001 to Jocelyn Stewart, an MSVU grad, and have two wonderful children, Hannah 3 and Caleb, 1. We live in Bible Hill.
