JOB SEARCH TIPS
Start looking in your own backyard - ask
your friends, parents, professors, and the Career Services Office
what they have heard for job opportunities that may be suitable
for you.
Network - get out there and meet people
in your field!
Check out various sources of Labour Market
Information. LMI - tells you about the opportunities that are
out there; where, when, how many, nature of the work and qualifications.
Look on the Internet - the Career Services
Office can recommend tons of great sites!
Read the paper - everyday!
Prepare a job search folder/binder that will keep
track of all the places you have applied to , people you have
talked to, etc. Keep it handy at all times so if an employer
calls, you know exactly who you are talking to and why.
In your folder/binder keep:
- copies of your resume.
- copies of the cover letters you sent.
- a contact log.
- a pad of paper.
- pen(s).
- your cards (if you have some).
- copies of job ads.
- letters of reference.
- anything relevant to your job search.
