ICMS, Inc. provides services in the management and conduct of research protocols in the areas of crop breeding, agronomy and the evaluation of product efficacy for pesticides, inoculants, plant growth regulators, adjuvants, fertilizers, seed coatings, and many other agricultural products. Additionally, ICMS, Inc. is recognized as a premier provider of services in the development, implementation and conduct of GLP research protocols to determine potential pesticide residues in feed, forage, seed, tree fruit, small fruit, vegetables, soil and aquatic environments. We have been dedicated to providing accurate and meaningful data to local, national and international clientele since establishment in 1985. Our BC station conducts trial work in both the Fraser Valley and the Okanagan Valley region working with a wide selection of crops such as small fruit, tree fruit, potatoes, cole crops, corn, greenhouse crops, forage and veggie crops to name a few.

Duties:
• Conduct of assigned field research trials in the area of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)-compliant crop and soil residue studies, crop variety trials and efficacy trials.
• Layout, planting, maintenance and harvest of small plot research trials on a variety of grain, oilseed, small fruit, tree fruit, greenhouse and vegetable crops.
• Test item calculations and application, sample collection (crop/soil), trial documentation and equipment operation as per Standard Operating Procedures, data collection and statistical analysis
• Interpreting and meeting protocols, frequent communication of project status to clients and final report/notebook completion and submission.
• Working in a team environment, he or she will report to the Regional Manager.
• Travel to and from the Okanagan for trial work as required.
Qualifications:
• BSc. in agriculture or equivalent education and experience is required.
• Ideal applicants will have previous research experience in agriculture or an environment-related discipline. GLP experience would be highly valued. Previous summer employment experience in field research would be highly valued.
• Knowledge of seeding, spraying and harvesting equipment operation and maintenance, field trial design.
Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience in Canadian agriculture. .
• The successful applicant must be willing to travel periodically and complete tasks requiring extended work hours when necessary.
• Computer literacy using an IBM-compatible PC in a Windows environment is required.
• Experience with ARM, Excel and Word would be considered an asset.
• A valid driver's license is required. Experience with towing at 20ft equipment trailer would be considered an asset.
• Membership or eligibility for membership in BCIA would be considered an asset

Ph.D. Student
The Canadian Facility for Ecoinformatics Research (CFER) in Biology at University of Ottawa is seeking an outstanding Ph.D. candidate for a new research project linking macroecology and global change biology. Current research at CFER explores a broad range of questions at the interface of these disciplines with additional focus on endangered species conservation and ecological applications of remote sensing. CFER currently hosts 4 MSc and 2 PhD students, and 3 postdoctoral researchers. CFER research productivity is high and we are extremely well equipped (see http://www.macroecology.ca for details).
The student will join the Canada Global Change Transect (CGCT) project. The CGCT is an ambitious, national-scale, interdisciplinary project that seeks to: 1) directly observe the distribution of a large number of butterfly species through multiple regional transects to test whether species’ ranges are shifting predictably in response to observed environmental changes 2) test and calibrate model predictions of butterfly species’ ranges with transect observations to allow reliable predictions of future impacts of global change. Depending on the interest and quality of the applicant, the project offers considerable flexibility in designing a research program that investigates areas of personal interest within the overall framework of the project.
Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in ecology and conservation biology and be capable of advanced statistical analysis. Experience in spatial ecology, entomology, and in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) or geomatics software are assets. Proficiency in spoken and written English essential. Selection of a student will be based on academic achievements, reference letters and previous research experience. Students with their own scholarship support can expect additional support through CGCT and will be competitive for teaching assistanceships. Non-scholarship applicants will receive the standard uOttawa stipend: $18,500/year.
Position is available starting the Winter Semester (January 2011) and no later than May 2011.

The Bible Hill Brownies and Sparks are looking for leaders.
The Brownies are aged 7-8 and they meet from 6 - 7:30 at St. Davids church.
The Sparks are age 5-6. They also meet on Mondays, 6:30 - 7:30 at St. Davids Hall.
The time requirements are the meetings, some meetings for Girl Guides of Canada (training, planning) plus whatever activities are decided to be done outside of meeting time (camping, sleepover). Also, cost is a uniform. The meeting and activities run from September to May.
