2010 Training Schedule Coming Soon
The
Centre for Continuing and Distance Education at NSAC is
pleased to have been chosen to deliver the in-class training
portion of the PEI Farm Technician Apprenticeship
Program.
Developed in consultation with the Trade Advisory Committee,
made up of PEI farmers and farm workers, this program combines
classroom learning with on-farm experience. Upon completing
all the requirements of the 3-year apprenticeship, participants
will be issued a Certificate of Qualification in Farm Technician
by the PEI Apprenticeship Section.
Apprentices will work throughout the year gaining skills
on farm with a farm mentor (employer). In addition, each
year they will participate in approximately 8 weeks of in-class
training delivered by NSAC on PEI.

- Farm Health and Safety
- Fork Lift and Skid Steer
- Tractor Safety
- Shop Skills
- Preventative Maintenance
- Field and Cropping Operations
- Pest Management
- Food Safety
- Farm Implements
- Introductory Welding
- Farm Property and Facilities Maintenance
- Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance
- Computer Data and Farm Records
- Communications
- Class 3A Driver Training
Apprentices will also be able to choose elective courses
for either livestock or cropping operations, depending on
interest.

is still in development as a result module topics may change.
Who Should Attend?
You
should attend if you are employed on a farm and want to enhance
and gain new skills. This program is also for individuals
who want to have their skills recognized through a provincial
Certificate of Qualification.
Entrance Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent; and
- Apprentices must be employed must have at least 1000
hours work in the agricultural industry.
Tuition
There is no cost for Apprenticeship Training on PEI for apprentices
who are eligible to receive Skills Development funding. Apprentices
may also be eligible to receive Employment Insurance Benefits
while attending training.
Non-eligible participants are responsible for covering
all program costs.

- Complete the application and submit it to the Apprenticeship
Section on or before the decision deadline* of Monday, November 30, 2009.
* The decision deadline is the
day when a minimum number of participants must be registered
in order to run the in-class portion of the program. Applications
may still be accepted after this date.

through the support from the Government of Prince Edward
Island, the PEI Agriculture Sector Council and the Prince
Edward Island ADAPT Council.
