THE AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN APPRENTICESHIP COURSE
WILL NOT BE HELD IN 2010
Note: Both apprentices and non-apprentices
can take this training.
This
program might be for you if you are an individual who likes
a technically challenging career working with machinery. To
register as an apprentice, you must have successfuly completed
Grade 12 or the equivalent and have an employer who is willing
to train you in accordance with the Apprenticeship agreement.
This training is also an excellent opportunity for those working
with agricultural equipment to hone their skills for on-farm
application.
The Agricultural Equipment Technician
Apprenticeship Program is a four year program. Each year, registered
apprentices are released by their employers to attend 5 weeks
of institutional training developed by the NSAC in co-operation
with industry representatives. Training takes place at the NSAC
Campus. At the end of the four year period, apprentices are
required to write an interprovincial examination. Successful
completion of the program will lead to the Agricultural Equipment
Technician qualification.
Course Content
The program is delivered in modular format allowing participants
to work at each skill set at their own pace. Although there is
flexibility in the sequencing of program delivery, all apprentices

Information on Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship training combines periodic institutional training
with extensive supervised on-the-job experience. The Apprenticeship
Program consists of an agreement between an individual requiring
apprenticeship in the Agricultural Equipment Technician trade,
an employer who requires a skilled employee, and the Division
of the Provincial Departments of Education responsible for Apprenticeship
training. NSAC offers the institutional training component of
the Agricultural Equipment Technician Apprenticeship Program through
a block release program.
The Agricultural Equipment Technician is
a Red Seal trade. "Red Seal" is the nationaly recognized
journeyperson endorsement. Professional trades practitioners
with this status can work anywhere in the country without further
training or examination.
