The NS Department of Agriculture and the NS Agricultural College are pleased to offer Experience Agriculture 2012 for teachers of Agriculture/Agri-Food 11 and Science 10 in Nova Scotia. Join us on the NSAC campus and on local farms for a broad look at the changing agricultural industry.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop was developed primarily for teachers of Agriculture/Agri-Food 11 and Science 10 in Nova Scotia high schools. We also welcome school principals and other educational staff from schools which are considering offering the agriculture course. The content is intended to give participants a better understanding and appreciation of Nova Scotia agriculture and to provide resources for in-class use.
Course Content
Teachers will learn some of the science behind food production, the avenues for getting food to market and the career opportunities available to those considering agriculture as a profession. See first-hand how programs, research, and education are helping our industry work towards a future that is socially responsible, environmentally ethical and economically sustainable for generations to come. You will also visit local farms to see agriculture in action and to hear producers share their experiences!
Participants can expect an active workshop that will engage and provide insight into the science, business and social impact of agriculture in Nova Scotia. A detailed schedule of events will be provided upon registration.

Participants will learn about:
- Cutting edge research at NSAC
- Careers in agriculture
- Growth in direct marketing opportunities for small and organic farms
- Environmental stewardship in agriculture
- Agricultural issues
Hands-on training topics include:
- Plant Propagation lab in the greenhouse
- Livestock Health workshop in the livestock barn
Course Details
What to Bring: |
Participants should dress appropriately for campus and farm tours. You will need casual clothing and solid footwear for visiting the barns & greenhouses. (no high heels or open toed shoes please!) |
