Dr. Paula Menzies
Dr. Paula Menzies DVM MPVM Dip European College Small Ruminant Health Management
Associate Professor in Ruminant Health Management, and Small Ruminant Research Coordinator at the University of Guelph. My activities include: clinician in Ruminant Field Service, clinical teacher of final year DVM students, teach sheep and goat health management to DVM program. Current and recent research includes "epidemiology of gastrointestinal parasites of sheep", "overwintering of gastrointestinal nematode parasites in ewes and on pasture", "prevalence of anthelmintic resistant parasites in sheep", "drug use patterns and prevalence of antimicrobial resistance in Ontario meat sheep flocks", "prevalence of Q fever in sheep and goats and their farm workers in Ontario", "prevalence of Johne's disease in dairy sheep and dairy goats in Ontario", and "welfare considerations in the use of the RAMALT biopsy procedure for the detection of scrapie".

- I am one of the Farm Services veterinarians that service the faming clients of the AVC practice.
Background:
- Veterinary graduate, Massey University, New Zealand 1981; rural practice, NZ, 1981-1985; residency training in reproduction, Iowa State University 1985-8
- PhD (trace element nutrition) from Massey University 1995.
- Teaching positions at North Carolina State University, Massey University 1988-1998;
- Over 100 published journals articles, conference papers, book chapters and articles. Interests: ruminant ambulatory services; herd & flock management; interactions between animal nutrition, disease, production and reproduction, with particular emphasis on trace element and vitamin nutrition.
- Recent research: selenium nutrition of ruminant species and horses, synchronized breeding programs in ruminant species
