Mission

The Rural Research Centre (RRC) seeks to further the connections between research and the people who shape rural life. With a focus on research rooted in humanities and social sciences disciplines such as history, sociology, communications, psychology, geography, literature and art, the RRC also encourages multi-disciplinary research and the integration of humanities and social science perspectives into research based in the agricultural, environmental and engineering sciences. The RRC Team supports and engages in a variety of endeavours rooted in 'the rural' - whether that rural reality is in Atlantic Canada, or elsewhere in the world. Our current research programme, Changing Paradigms, funded in part by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, is examining the changing (local to global) state of agricultural production models, health, and safety.
To this end, we promote, share, and undertake rurally focused, multi-disciplinary research in the social sciences and humanities. Our Team also supports and engages in a variety of intellectual endeavours rooted in 'the rural' - whether that rural reality is in Atlantic Canada, or elsewhere in the world.
