NSAC Welcomes new Industry Research Chair in Farm Energy Conservation

NSAC is pleased to welcome Dr. Kenneth Corscadden, PhD, P.Eng. to its faculty. Dr. Corscadden has accepted the role of Industry Research Chair, Farm Energy Conservation in the Department of Engineering.

Dr. Corscadden will lead research in program development, assisting Nova Scotia farmers to implement sustainable energy reduction strategies. This research will target three main areas: energy reduction, optimization of farm operations and installation of renewable energy sources.

“The Farm Energy Conservation project will provide farmers with the information they need to make informed decisions about technology, cost savings and alternative uses of farm resources,” says Dr. Leslie MacLaren, Co-President and Vice President Academic at NSAC.

Education and research at NSAC is focused on addressing the world’s most pressing issues. Dr. Corscadden’s research will create partnerships between NSAC researchers, industry partners and farmers, resulting in specialized energy conservation technologies for a variety of farm operations. Data collected from farms will become case studies on the benefits of green technologies for farming operations.

Dr. Corscadden is an electrical engineer with over 15 years academic and industrial research experience. He has held senior research positions with various engineering companies and has been responsible for collaborative research projects between universities and institutions in the UK, Canada and Australia. He has worked on product development and technology transfer, as well as optimization and measurement devices for quality control, energy reduction and operational improvement.

Dr. Corscadden’s position and research are supported by Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, Conserve Nova Scotia, Agri-Futures Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Department of Environment, Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
