Special Feature
The Colchester Regional Development Agency (CoRDA)
works with the community to create sustainable economic growth in
the Colchester region of Nova Scotia, Canada. Local communities
benefit from its efforts in many areas including business development,
community development, immigration, and youth attraction, retention,
and employment programs. Alan Johnson, Director of Marketing and
Communications, would like to give alumni an
introduction to CoRDA and its important partnership their alma matter.
The university contributes in many ways to its community. We hope
this feature will give insight into some of the ways NSAC is making
a big difference in the economy of the Colchester region today and
in the future. More.

Stephanie's Replacement Arrives
The Development and External Relations Department
would like to welcome to Terry Murray-Arnold. He will be filling in
for Stephanie while she is on maternity leave. Including many other
projects, Terry will be working on the next issue of Agricola News,

70 students were recognized for high academic achievement
on February 7 for making the 2007 President’s List. More.
The Microfactory has arrived
Not even the cold and snow of an early February afternoon
could stop the excitement in the Atlantic BioVenture Centre as the
Portable Modular Microfactory arrived at AgriTech Park.

Research
NSAC led study on nutrition to receive 1.9
million in AIF funding
New research, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Vasantha
Rupasinghe, at NSAC hopes to capture the health benefits of fruits
and introduce new healthy and convenient value-added food choices
to the consumer. This project recently received 1.9 million from
the Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency’s Atlantic Innovation
Fund. More.
Giving Consumers the Right to Choose

Genetically modified organisms
(GMOs) are a subject of much debate as it is often seen as “meddling”
with nature. Rutherford, a recent graduate from the Nova Scotia
Agricultural College who specializes in genetics, believe that
consumers should have the right to choose whether they want
to eat GMOs.

Athletics
| The 23rd Annual NSAC “Rick
Russell” Woodsmen Competition was held on Feb.9. Approximately
20 teams competed representing Colby College (located in Maine,
USA), University of Maine, University of New Brunswick, Sir
Sanford Fleming College, McGill’s McDonald Campus and,
