Century Farm Designation
Presented
Retired Agriculture Canada Research Scientist, Ken Proudfoot presented
the Century Farm gate sign to Mike Murray, Class of 1975 of Murrays
Horticultural Services, Portugal Cove , NL.
Mr.
Murray was one of 15 farm families recognized with the CF designation
in April of 2006. The Century Farm project was developed by the
volunteer group, The Agricultural History Society of NL, in 2005/06..
Mr. Aucoin is chair of this Society and Ken is Treasurer.

Alantic Poultry Research Centre
The Atlantic Centre for Poultry Research will officially
open on the NSAC campus, Wednesday, May 30th, 2007. The Centre,
valued at over $11 million, will provide teaching and research capabilities
in all phases of poultry production from hatching to value-added
product processing.
Funding for the 3000 square metre Centre has been
made possible through funds allocated by the Province of Nova Scotia,
the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Nova Scotia Research
& Innovation Trust. Additional funds have been generously provided
by the National and Atlantic Feather industries, Atlantic provincial
governments and various individual donors.
Canada Wide Science
Fair
During the week of May 12-20, 2007 Nova Scotia will be
welcoming 500 young scientists from across the country for Canada
Wide Science Fair 2007! These students will be joined by 170 chaperones,
over 300 judges and 400 volunteers for a week of science, fun and
more fun. The event will be based in the Truro-Bible Hill area of
Colchester County with guests calling the Nova Scotia Agricultural
College and the Nova Scotia Community College home for the week.

Graduate Research Day
NSAC Graduate Students are hosting the 8th Annual Graduate Student
Research Day on March 30, 2007 in Cumming Hall on the NSAC campus.
Research Day allows for graduate students to inform and interact
with the general public, faculty, and students about the exciting
and innovative research they are conducting. Click here for the

Recipient of ECO Canada Student Award 2007

Julie Bailey, a graduate student
at NSAC has been selected for one of 15 Environmental Careers
Organization (ECO) Canada Student Awards. |
Julie was selected for one of two
awards for the Atlantic Region and will receive a $1,000 prize and
the opportunity to showcase her poster at Americana 2007 (www.americana.org),
a biennial conference on environmental business held in Montreal,

Women’s Institute Buy Local Challenge
Report Released
The findings of the Women’s
Institute (W.I) Buy Local Challenge Survey were released on Feb.20th,
2007, during Women’s Institute Week. The report was prepared
by Dr. Steven Dukeshire and Renee Garbes of the Rural Research Center,
Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC), in collaboration with the
Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia. The report is a component
of the larger W.I. Buy Local Challenge Campaign.
