Alumni E-News is aimed at keeping alumni and friends of NSAC up-to-date with news from the university including important announcements, student and alumni achievements, athletic news and upcoming events. You will still receive your alumni magazine, the Agricola News, by mail.

Research:

Research provides insight of natural preservatives for Fresh-Cut Apple Market

There has been a steady increase in consumer demand for convenient and nutritious minimally processed produce like fresh-cut apples. However, the fresh-cut produce industry is challenged with potential outbreaks of illness that could be associated with microbial growth during the extended shelf life of these products. Local Doctoral Student receives 2007 Canadian Meat Council Associate Members Scholarship

Rob Michitsch, a doctoral student at Dalhousie University and NSAC was recently awarded the 2007 Canadian Meat Council Associate Members Scholarship. The scholarship is intended to promote quality education and development of meat science research in Canada. Click here for complete article

Atlantic Poultry Research Centre

The Atlantic Centre for Poultry Research will officially open on the NSAC campus, Wednesday, May 30th, 2007. The Centre, valued at over $11 million, will provide teaching and research capabilities in all phases of poultry production from hatching to value-added product processing.

Funding for the 3000 square metre Centre has been made possible through funds allocated by the Province of Nova Scotia, the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Nova Scotia Research & Innovation Trust. Additional funds have been generously provided by the National and Atlantic Feather industries, Atlantic provincial governments and various individual donors.

Canada Wide Science Fair

During the week of May 12-20, 2007 Nova Scotia will be welcoming 500 young scientists from across the country for Canada Wide Science Fair 2007! These students will be joined by 170 chaperones, over 300 judges and 400 volunteers for a week of science, fun and more fun. The event will be based in the Truro-Bible Hill area of Colchester County with guests calling the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the Nova Scotia Community College home for the week. Rick's Weekend

The third annual "Ricks Weekend" is scheduled for July 14th, 2007 at Gaskin's Chocolate River Motel and Campground at 3471 Rte 114, Hopewell Cape, NB.
This site is where we met for lunch on Sunday last year before returning home. There are a number of cottages as well as a campground and restaurant. Contact info is as follows; Tel 506 734 1904, Fax 506 734 1918 and at www.sn2000.nb.ca. The owners are Wayne and Donna Gaskin. Looking forward to seeing all Woodsmen and friends on the 14th!

Homecoming 2007

NSAC alumni and their families are welcomed back to the Nova Scotia Agricultural College Friday October 19th and Saturday October 20th , 2007 for Homecoming Weekend. The Reunion Program will honour graduates from Class years ending in 2 and 7. Start planning now for October 2007

Fund Raising Ends on Positive Note

NSAC’s Development office has closed the books on the 2006-07 fiscal year and we would like to thank all those who have helped us make it yet another successful fundraising effort. While the total dollars donated and the number of donations was not a great as in 2005-06, we do show a continued upward trend over the five previous years. The following table shows the summary of results since 2001-02 and the graph displays the donation totals trend.
