NSAC Excellence in Teaching Awards
Its that time of year again. Staff as well as students
are encouraged to consider nominating a technical or faculty instructor
who exemplifies the tradition of excellence that has been NSAC’s
hallmark for the past century. Don’t let the hard work of
someone whose teaching you admire to go unrecognized. Deadline
for 2006 nominations is Friday, February 24th. For more information

2006 Award for Best Paper
The Canadian Society for Horticultural Science has
bestowed a "2006 Award for Best Paper Published in the Canadian
Journal of Plant Science in 2005" award to Rob Gordon, Ali
Madani and their co-authors. The publication citation is:
Gordon, R., Elmi, A. A., Madani, A., Hauser, T., Rodd,
V. and Leblanc, P. 2005. Nitrate and pesticide leaching from a processing
carrot production system in Nova Scotia. Can J. Plant Sci. 85: 205-211.
As part of this award,they will receive a $500 cash
prize in August from the Canadian Society for Horticultural Science.
Halifax 2006 - A venue to share scientific
discovery
“Halifax
2006” is the joint meeting of the Canadian Societies of Agronomy,
Animal and Horticultural Sciences. The conference is taking place
at the Westin Hotel in Halifax from August 1st to 4th 2006. This
meeting will serve as a forum to gather vital information for the
future of soil, plant and animal agriculture and to provide a venue
to share scientific discovery. The Plenary Session theme is "Reinventing
Agricultural Research".
A wide variety of symposia have been planned, including:
1) Agriculture: Consumer or Producer of Energy?; 2) Teaching Agricultural
Science at Universities; and 3) Multi functionality of Grasslands
in Agro-Ecosystems. Several concurrent sessions have been reserved
for volunteer paper presentations and posters.

Mazda CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championships
The
NSAC is honoured to be hosting the Mazda CCAA Women's Volleyball
National Championship for 2006. Events such as this provide great
exposure for the university as well as our home community. More
so this year as Eastlink has agreed to broadcast the Bronze and
Gold games on national television. NSAC
extends a warm invitation to all alumni to come back to campus
to
watch this exciting high level competition. For complete information,

University Day - Friday
March 3rd
University Day - an open house for prospective students will be
held on Friday, March 3rd, 2006. It's a day long
introduction and orientation to NSAC in which students participate
in an expo highlighting NSAC programs, athletics and services NSAC
has to offer. Students can also meet with future classmates and
take part in program activities.
